Twelve Great Forts
A series of military installations promoted in Solomani Confederation media as being representative of the might of their nation, and key to its defence.
The Twelve Great Forts were declared in 1022. This was mainly a propaganda exercise intended to demonstrate the resilience of the Confederation. The most powerful fortifications were chosen as showcases, although the criteria were strict. A Great Fort couldn't consist of dispersed defences; it had to be a region of a planet with particularly concentrated military installations.
Jingleswelt, a border world renowned for its strong, almost obsessive defence, made its case to be recognised as the earliest to be established -- the ‘First Great Fort’. This status was disputed, since Jingleswelt's claim went back to the earliest construction of its defence systems, which weren't impressive at the time. Regardless, Jingleswelt is the only Great Fort to be a tourist destination. Most are restricted-access sites protecting important installations.
