Thaki/secret
The only solid scientific work ever done by Lunit was on the Others. It was her reputation for pandering to the lowest common denominator that caused her book to be rejected by her peers.
The Others called themselves the Thaki, an alien minor race native to Siam/Iimii (Zarushagaar 0518). While they never invented jump drive, the Thaki excelled in other areas of technology. They used massive sublight ships, capable of 10-G acceleration, to explore spinward Zarushagaar. They set up scientific stations in five systems and established regular flights to them.
Disaster struck when a plague broke out on the homeworld. Within six months, the total population was dead and the Thaki's five active starships were carrying it to the stations. Before other sophonts explored the sector, the Thaki were gone.
In an interesting twist, all evidence of the race's homeworld was destroyed when a wandering brown dwarf passed through the Siam system. The Thaki's world was ripped apart by tidal forces, giving rise to the asteroid belt that exists today. Only Indigo Lunit has ever found the artifacts the Thaki left behind at their science stations. The rest have remained hidden during the intervening millennia.
