Thoughts on Updates[edit]

Just some general thoughts on Oujda that could be used to give a more detailed picture of the system and how it works.

Thoughts on Oujda[edit]

The mainworld's name is that of a Moroccan town on the border between Morocco & Algiers. Interestingly at least one other world name in the subsector has a link to former French colonial areas. Tamatave (TB2708) is the French name for a town in Madagascar. What this means regarding the origins of the population is entirely up for debate.

While there are no gas giants in system, there are two belts, if it's assumed one is ice rich then it will provide a source of water for the mainworld and for refueling starships. But likely both belts will contain extensive infrastructructure related to collecting and processing of raw materials.

As to the form of government, the Law Level seems to contradict the Heterognity, however if it's assumed that the vast majority of the population are employees of one company or another and that the outward form of the government is a republic (E.g. Either the CEOs form a council of government or there is a parliament, there are political parties, but 'everyone knows' that those parties are simply fronts for differing alliances of companies.) this may make sense.

The two offworld colonies (Crexel (TB3001) & Jeilif (TB3203), Mosule (TB2610) is more likely a colony of Tamatave.), act as a 'safety valve'.

Oujda will definitely maintain a system defense force, especially given the probable extensive space based infrastructure in system. As to whether they maintain a spacegoing fleet or not is another matter, their current arrangement with the Trooles Confederation may release them from needing to build an interstellar force, but there are probably some battleship sized system defence craft.

While the Trooles Confederation is supplying Oujda with processed raw materials, most of it's food requirements are probably being satisfied by Granian (TB2606) although that will probably change once Jeilif's agricultural production comes fully on line assuming it's population can be decreased.

Settlements on Oujda are going to be fully enclosed, either domed cities or more likely arcologies like those found on Azun, although whether they use the same design as the Azuni arcologies is something that needs to be worked out.

Notes on Crexel[edit]

Crexel represents an interesting case, the system is almost identical to Oujda's, although the sun is slightly dimmer. The mainworld is rougly the same size, has the same atmospheric density and slightly more water. It's quite possible that Oujda is planning to turn the system into a second industrial hub in Banderhue, in this case the planets current population may represent the company overseeing construction of arcologies and industrial sites. Once these are complete some of the population from Jeilif will be transferred there.

Notes on Granian[edit]

Granian is one of Oujda's major trading partners. It's farms/ranches are only one jump from Oujda using Jump 3 ships and doubtless supply much of Oujda's food supply. But on the continent where the downport is located are a number of oceanside settlements that house large transient populations throughout the planetary year, these settlements are owned by a locally registered company that is majority owned by Aaleem Consolidated Factors of Oujda. They are the locations to which the ordinary employees (Probably up to the level of upper-middle management.) of Oujda go for their holidays.

The owning company covers the settlements Administration/Maintenance/Medical matters. Restaurants/Entertainment/Souvenirs are handled by Granian firms contracted to supply them. This is for two reasons, a) It's cheaper, b) it gets the 'locals' onside.

As to what 'Holiday' means to the average Oujdan, quite simply it's a period of four weeks (one week outbound travel, two weeks 'on site', one week return travel) during which non-work activities are pursued in an environment that is much less structured than at home. Given that Oujda is a world where going outside is highly unlikely (unless employed in settlement exterior maintenance.) and the cultural differences between Oujda & Granian I can see the need for companies that specialise in 'transition to holiday' and 'transition to work' training. The former would be carried out well in advance of the holiday, the latter during the trip back. This would also allow for psychologists to make note of any candidates to suffer attacks of agoraphobia and treat them prior to departure.
