Definitions[edit]

The definitions of the orbital bands listed on this page are semi-consistent with Mongoose Traveller v1, but earlier and later books define orbital bands at fixed distances from the central star and thus the habitable band move as do the innermost habitable orbit number. The write-up is sort of true for G2 V stars but not for A9 Ia ones!

The diagram is true for Terra but would vary for non-Terran worlds.

I'd contend that this needs a re-write.

n.b. This also is conflating:

  1. Generic Orbital Mechanics
  2. Specific orbit profiles about a planet
  3. Orbital Bands about a single star

and specifically doesn't deal with:

  1. Banned Orbits in Multiple Star Systems
  2. Circumbinary Orbits
