Sword Masters
The system-wide police force of the Forine system. In the system's early days, many of its space habitats were of such flimsy construction that the use of firearms was considered far too risky, whereas batons and other forms of non-lethal weaponry often proved inadequate against malefactors in space suits. Consequently law enforcers were equipped with a short sword in addition to ordinary police equipment. This became a badge of office and when more sturdy habitats and environmental domes allowed the use of firearms, the sword stayed as part of the uniform.
The Sword Masters are led by a Sword Lord who, until 1081 was appointed by the head of Forine's government. In 1081, following the death of long-time dictator Chomi Norep, the Sword Lord of the day assumed control of the government.
