Spongepumper (Creature) Synopsis[edit]

The Spongepumper is a light, but large, spread out aquatic creature. The Spongepumper is sessile (immobile).

Spongepumper (Creature) Physiology & Ecology[edit]

The most commonly encountered Spngepumpers are freshwater species most often found in or near flowing fresh water sources such as river beds or lakes. Salt-water-dwelling Spongejumper subspecies have also been encountered.

Spongepumpers possess a large, central hollow body, from the sides of which sprout many hollow, bladder-like tentacles. These are used as intake hoses, sucking in water from alternate tentacles into a two-chambered digestive system. The upper chamber accepts and holds water, injecting digestive fluids into the water. The lower half absorbs the digested material, and ejects the water out of other tentacles. The complete cycle takes about half an hour, and the Spongepumper is capable of ingesting creatures up to about 4 Kg.

Spongepumper (Creature) Life Cycle & Reproduction[edit]

Spongepumpers reproduce by budding. Buds appear on the lower body half and grow for about a week before breaking off to float down river.

Spongepumper (Creature) Diet & Trophics[edit]

Spongepumpers typically feed on algae, bacterial colonies, and various types of plankton-like microbiota including zooplankton (animal microorganisms) and phytoplankton (plant microorganisms).

Spongepumper (Creature) TAS Advisory[edit]

While Spongpumpers are not overtly aggressive or dangerous, travelers are advised to avoid swimming in environments where Spongepumpers reside as it is very possible to become entangles in a Spongepumper's tentacles or body and drown.

Additionally, Spongepumpers expelling water can easily hit bystanders, which can be an extremely unpleasant experience. Spongepumper effluent contains not only residual digestive juices, which are highly acidic, but can also contain Spongejumper waste (fecal) matter, which can contain potent, disease-carrying microorganisms.
