Shionthy (world)/secret

Many details of the Shionthy Belt do not agree with the initial IISS survey.

An closer examination of the system reveals some features that do not quite jive with the official library data. The Shionthy Belt, from which the system is named, is the outer of two belts. The inner belt, called the Ragnarok Belt, which occupies the life zone around Shionthy's star, is the one that is riddled with contra-terrene matter (CTM). Occasional CTM encounters do take place elsewhere in the system, including in the Shionthy Belt, but nowhere near often enough to make life there especially hazardous, as evidenced by the fact that 70 million people live and thrive there.

The interdict was imposed in 1050 after the Theresa Santori, a big Regina-based luxury liner, was lost with all hands due to an AM explosion in 1044. Since then, the locals have tried over and over again to get the interdict lifted, but in vain. Cynical political observers theorize that the current set-up, giving a de facto monopoly of trade with Shionthy to the Imperium, is simply too lucrative to give up. Certainly the Imperium isn't paying millions of credit per gram of AM it buys. Exact figures are unavailable, but the price they pay is at least an order of magnitude less than that.

Additional secret information concerning the origin of the anti-matter and configuration of objects in this solar system may be revealed here: Droynia (world)/secret.
