Orsal is a non-agricultural, preindustrial, icy vacuum world, warranting hazardous environment precautions.
- Its surface is ice-capped with little or no atmosphere and nearly all of its water frozen.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It is an unclaimed Non-Aligned world located in the Xelan Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
System Data[edit]
Kuru-Orsal System[edit]
The primary is Kuru, a dim red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0055 Sols, a mass of 0.302 Sols, and a diameter of 444,000 km. (I) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (II) Clebent, a vacuum iceworld: (IIa) Orsal is its only satellite and is designated the mainworld, and (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. All of the worlds retain satellites.
(II) Clebent[edit]
(II) Clebent (known UWP ?300???-?) is designated a secondary iceworld. It orbits Kuru at a mean distance of 0.52 AU (77.8 million km), within the outer system. It has an orbital period of 249 days 5 hours and a rotation period of 132 hours. The axial tilt is 159 degrees. Clebent has a diameter of 4,353 km, a density of 2.32 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.14 G. The world is geologically inert. Its atmosphere is rated as Vacuum. The world has no hydrosphere. Mean surface temperature: -168°C.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(IIa) Orsal[edit]
(IIa) Orsal is the only major moon of (II) Clebent and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 12 diameters (52,000 km), with an orbital period of 3 days 12 hours: it is tidally locked to Clebent. The axial tilt is 0 degrees relative to its parent world. Orsal has a diameter of 1,461 km, a density of 3.33 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.07 G. The world is geologically inert. The atmosphere is rated as Vacuum. Around 8% of the surface is covered in sheets of frozen water-ice (H2O). Mean surface temperature: -174°C.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 6.7 million km², Land surface area: 6.2 million km², Ice surface area: 500,000 km².

Historical Data[edit]
Orsal was first surveyed during the 25th century and was certainly visited by long-range scout vessels who emplaced a navigation beacon. Its remoteness, inhospitability and lack of resources made it unattractive at best and the system was rarely if ever visited. At some point during the Dark Age the beacon ceased functioning. No official visits to the system have occurred over the last millennium.
- Physical details about the system and the mainworld are known and available.
- Details about the local starport, and any indigenous population and their society remain unknown.
World Timeline[edit]
- ca 2450AD: long-range scout vessels visit the system.
- 3730AD: the Voyagers devastate the Distant Fringe.
UWP Listing[edit]
