Orious
This moon of Manubalista in the Middle System of the Unofficial system G100463-7 (1) is an isolated mining base. The surface is exposed to intense radiation, as their is no atmosphere nor a native magnetosphere to block of deflect solar winds from the system's three stars. However, Manubalista's magnetic field is very large and the moons 26 day orbit is within the magnetic field of the gas giant. The spaceport allows properly equipped ships to land and refuel. The moon is small with little gravity and there is no air nor water to be found. Fuel and everything else must be imported. Among the various Noble Holdings, an Omicron Faction Forces Count is the military governor of this colony and they are charged with ensuring mineral production is maintained.
The current colony charter has been in operation for seven years. The port has limited cargo handling ability and restricted warehouse space. A 1 km square solar power array provides electricity for the port facilities. Carbon composite structures provide frameworks for concrete formed from the moon's soil. Heat sinks and radiators are placed into the moon's crust to provide cooling. The initial sixteen habitat modules and the original six cargo modules form the core of the star town. Spaced layers of thick non-metallic thermal shielding are covered in soil to try to block some stray radiation on the moon's surface. Extensive, deeper tunnels are necessary for better protection. A complex network of metallic tracks for mobile cargo handlers are located along the right wall of all public passages. There is a 5,000 power RADAR array for traffic control linked to a model 1 computer which serves as the colony's mainframe. There is a 5,000 power transceiver for VHF/UHF radio communication between low orbit and the surface.
All consumables are recycled to the maximum extent possible. Oxygen is reclaimed from carbon dioxide by fractional distillation of the colony's internal atmosphere, massive filtration towers also remove all gaseous contaminants. Additionally, this process removes water vapor and purifies it for drinking. Steam distillation is used to reclaim more drinking water from urine and solid body waste. The dehydrated and sterilized remains are mixed with processed local soils and used as fertilizer in the hydroponic gardens, where fresh fruits and vegetables are grown to supplement the colonist's diet of imported freeze-dried food. Imports of real food are warmly received and command high prices.
