Military Specialty Types[edit]
| Experimental Vessel (QE) | |
|---|---|
| Mine Dispensing/Mine Retrieval Vessel (QM) | Although there are a number of arguments that these vessels are more properly military auxiliaries or as another military class, these vessels have be traditionally listed as specialty vessels. The primary mission of these vessels is the laying, clearing, and maintenance of mine fields, put they have been used in a variety of other roles including, as escorts. patrol vessels, SAR, beacon tenders, and others. These vessels are normally lightly armed, but carry enough in the way of weapons to discourage pirates and raiders. There are a few of these ships that are more heavily armed and armored, but they are an exception to the normal ships of this class, and usually carry an QEA designation. |
