Maser Cannon

A Maser Cannon is a gravitically focused electromagnetic energy emitter array.

Description (Specifications)

They are tuned to frequencies/wavelengths between 300 MHz/(1 m) and 300 GHz/(1 mm). These photons are pulsed or continuous wave and are used to heat and cut target starship hulls with inputs in the 250 MW range. Energy in this range can wreck havoc with organic tissues and unshielded electronic and computational devices.

History & Background (Dossier)

This technology is a limited use application adjacent to the more prevalent use of microwave frequency lasers' use as jam-proof communication systems. They are line of sight, but unfettered by prismatic aerosols and smokes of the modern battlefield. Linked to a map box and a battle computer they allow striker units to have secure communication links on the move. Starships can use these in conjunction with lasers and radios for up to system range communication relays.
