Recruitment, Selection and Training: The Long Range Scout Companies (LRSC) are recruited from among the best infantrymen in each brigade.
Potential recruits must be infantrymen, and be committed to a full term in the LRSC.
One term is the normal term of service; only the top 25% of officers and enlisted men are retained beyond the first term to serve as NCOs and officers; the rest are returned to their original parent regiments, to pass their skills on to the rest of the infantry. The LRSC thus tend to be fairly "young" units.

Company Organization: Long Range Scout companies are found as part of Recon Battalions assigned to Caledonian Divisions and Corps. They insert into enemy territory via a variety of means (drop capsules, grav carriers, parachute or on foot), and carry out close reconnaissance of enemy units and installations, signalling intelligence and targeting information back to intelligence staff and higher-level units.
LRCs very rarely undertake direct action; they are armed and equipped for stealth and self-defense; the last thing an LRC detachment, usually five men, wants to do is blow its cover by engaging in open combat.
LRC troopers are highly-qualified infantrymen who undergo a two week selection course and a six month training course (from which 40-50% of the applicants wash out).
An LRSC is organized as follows:
- 4 x Scout Platoons, each with
- Commander (Captain), Platoon Sergeant, Signaller
- 3 x Scout Sections, each with five men: Leader, Signaller, Medic, 2 x Scouts
- Headquarters Detachment
- Major, Sergeant Major, 2x Signalmen
