Mire is a high-population garden world with a billion or more sophonts in population size, and a near-ideal utopian environment conducive to most sophonts. This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the extra trade and prestige associated with that role. It is a member of Darrian Confederation in the Darrian Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector. This world supports a Military Base and the system supports a Naval Base. 10% of the world's population is the Major Race Aslan. 80% of the world's population is the Minor Human Race Daryen.
Mire's capital city, Theh'ld, includes the Unity Palace, which is the Darrian Confederation's main bureaucratic center and headquarters of the Confederation military. All Mire's development is underground, apart from the Maghiz shrine, to allow the surface to be used for agriculture and nature preserves. A largish enclave of some 70 million dolphins lives in the deep oceans of Mire. They have long been fully integrated into Mire’s society, and contributed significantly to the recovery from the Maghiz.[2]
Government is a major industry on Mire. Bureaucrats and military personnel are to be found everywhere. Most of the large corporations keep offices here. [3]
The modern era for Darrian began in -275 when Mire (a recovered colony) rebuilt two starship hulks and began to recontact the worlds of the Darrian Group. When Imperial scouts reached Darrian in 148, it became obvious that the Darrian worlds had common interests that were best handled by a single government. The Darrian Confederation was created to encompass all of the Darrian colony worlds, and Mire was selected as the capital of the government.[4]
