Irdiish has a population between 10,000 and 10 million sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Iiradu Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Irdiish, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. During the Long Night this world was named Anduu Bi.

Astrography and planetology[edit]

Irdiish is a member of the Vilani Main.

This world is aquatic with all major cities based on floating pontoons or underwater. The floating cities move freely around the plane on the tides, but are powered to avoid grounding on the few shoals and islands. Most of the world flooded when the ice caps melted due to increases in the primary's temperature. Irdiish is unusually close to its sun and suffers quite variable weather. During the 28-hour day the surface of the sea steams, at night there is a continual downpour. At dawn and dusk there are fierce storms that lasts an hour or more, often with typhoon-like violence.

As a result of the weather conditions, much of the planetary transport is by submersible. The few surface craft used for transport are also sealed against being submerged for brief periods.

The space port is in geostationary orbit associated with the downport. The sea port is mostly on the sea bed, about 200m below the surface. There is a huge sealed hanger on a hydraulic platform which transports ships between the surface and the underwater port. The platform can only accommodate an aggregate 2,000 dtons of craft, and moving from the surface to the port and back is a slow operation. This limits the port's operation and it is very tightly scheduled.

The main export are fish and alge used as stock protein supplements.

The sea water has a relatively high content of sulfur and other dissolved minerals, which in turn gives the world's atmosphere its taint.
