Hoaawli are "Schools" of behaviour and support which place great expectation of a member's duty and individual conduct. Many are associated with Warrior groups and the existence of some are known only to initiates.

There are three major exceptions to the warrior groups: One for Starfarers, one for Scientists and one for Tradition and Ceremonial - all of which are not secret as such, but have a close group of members who practice in specific fields.

The Aslan have created a number of Hoaawli of greater and lesser fame and secrecy. The most famous types are:-

• Brotherhood of Stars
• The Secret Schools
• Scientific Kinships
• Ceremonial Kinships
