Fisher Trench

Also known as the Fischer Trench (the name was corrupted over time); a jumpspace phenomenon originally encountered by the Fischer expedition, a scientific mission out of Verge Sector. According to uncorroborated accounts, the Fischer mission encountered a region in the Riftspan Reaches Sector where its jump drive 'ran wild' and had to be permanently shut down.

A variant of the tale says that the expedition was attacked by unknown vessels after emerging from jumpspace, which caused the systems failures. However, there are even wilder stories; some say the ship emerged from jump in a pocket universe and was attacked there by these unknown vessels, whilst the craziest of all claim that it reached the bottom of a 'jumpspace trench' where the crew disembarked onto a planetoid they found there.

Note that the exact location of the Fischer Trench varies according to the version of the tale, but is thought to be in Hwiwuiyo, and some star charts include it on their depictions of the region.
