A Command Specialist or Officer is a leader of a major vessel or vehicle among other commands.

Description (Specifications)

Command specialists, often also known as "officers" in both civilian and military contexts, direct and coordinate other crew as their primary role, making sure that those who operate the ship's systems are working together toward the ship's intended purpose.

While there is often status accorded with being a command specialists, and many sophonts aim for this position in order to abuse it, the best command specialists act primarily to support and enable their crew, giving them the information and resources needed to do their jobs (which often entails getting others to provide said information and resources, while the crew does what they can with what they have in the mean time) and heeding advice from their subordinates (though also knowing when this advice is irrelevant or incorrect).

The most senior Command Specialist on a ship is the ship's Captain.

In nearly every sophont race, command specialists are well known by the end of Technology Level 0, the main variation between races being how large a group can operate before someone needs to spend most of their time just keeping track of what everyone is doing.
