The term Armor generally refers to a material that has been specially hardened and or reinforced to withstand attack and penetration by one or more weapons systems.

More specifically, it can refer to the following:

1. A reinforced set of clothing or protective gear to shield a Sophont from the effects of a combat environment. In the more restricted sense, the adjective "Armored" is used to refer to an unpowered and reinforced suit of clothing or protective gear, whereas the noun "Armor" is used by armorers to refer to a powered suit of protective gear. The term "Armor" is employed somewhat liberally in colloquial usage, however.
2. A Hull Material used on vehicles or vessels to withstand penetration.
