Ostia is an independent world on the frontier between Daibei Sector and Reavers' Deep. It was not part of the Vilani settlement of Daibei, but was settled later, in 2613 AD, during the Rule of Man. Ostia is the inner planet of a K6 V star and is tide-locked to its primary. The extensive oceans and dense atmosphere circulate enough to ameliorate some of the temperature extremes common to tide-locked worlds and allow for a fairly broad temperate belt around the equator, however the ocean does in fact boil at the pole nearest the sun, and is permanently ice-capped at the pole away from the sun. The world's government is rated as "Balkanized", however it might almost be considered no government at all, as the governments of the various islands are extremely lax. Primary sources of planetary income are from seafood and mining, including underwater mining. Another export is lumber from a sea plant that is dried and cut into beams and planks.
