New Chennai Inc uses the standard 7mm rifle ammunition and has been developed as a sustained fire squad support weapon. The initial settlers brought no weapons of this type, and the concept had to be developed from scratch on New Earth.
The weapon uses a disintegrating link belt of ammunition, and has been designed with light-weight, but strong materials with excellent wear characteristics. The weapon may be used in ground-support roles using a bipod; sustained fire roles using a tripod; and has a credible anti-drone capability when mounted on a tripod with AD extension. Versions are also used in vehicle mounted remote turrets for anti-sniper and anti-drone purposes.
This is the standard support weapon for Shelter's armed forces. Note that the military issue version comes with a built-in telescopic and light-intensifying scope to enable that army to compete with the most modern of equipment supplied to New Heaven's forces.
