Worlds within 3 parsecs of Mire[1]

Spyro's early life was not salubrious. As an Imperial human on a Darrian Confederation world, the locals always saw him as someone "Other". He fell into a group of "Others" which saw him being branded as trouble - but always managed to stay just inside the threshold for exile. The lack of parents didn't make life easier.

Spyro moved naturally into the criminal underworld of Mire. The Darrian Confederation does not like to admit its presence, but present it is. Spyro was acting as enforcer for the "Relli" when the neighbouring gang was rounded up by the police. This left a power vacuum into which the "Relli" tried to step - in competition with the "River Gang". The resulting war was sufficiently severe that the authorities could no longer ignore its existence and ultimately Spyro had to leave the world to avoid a "Major adjustment of life expectancy" (as it was put by the owner of one of the businesses the "Relli" protected).

Part of the plan to leave saw Spyro signed on as the Gunner on a ruin of a ship - the Fireworm. The ship's reputation was terrible having been switched between sides in the recent Fifth Frontier War. But it was the most stable place that Spyro had been in for ever.

Drax was a key element of the safe transport of their first client - his shooting got them out of the ambush that was set for them with only minor damage. The involvement (officially non-involvement) with a bunch of Sword Worlds terrorists wasn't so different to any other job he had undertaken but the levels of risk appeared somewhat huge! Fortunately, the pay-outs were commensurate.

Having gained a reputation for the safe transport of individuals of interest from A to B in what was now a dangerous part of space, the ship gained an heroic reputation and Spyro was written off as dead. He had survived and reappeared in 1138 on the far side of the Deneb Sector on a ship that had been assumed to have been lost on the slipway: the Phoenix.
