Agency-Guild Wars
Historical conflicts on Liigash (also known as Yuzma). The Agency-Guild Wars took place prior to the native Graytch developing spaceflight, beginning in -3250 on the Imperial calendar.
Conflicts between professional guilds in many of the Graytch people's island-based cultures saw whole communities become precarious. This served as a catalyst for the coordination of inter-island agencies. The establishment of such agencies, however, was resented by die-hard guild members, who then banded together with fellow guildsmen on other islands to protect their independence.
As the Agency system became entrenched, Graytch culture underwent significant change. A fairly free-wheeling system became, in a very short time, conservative and bureaucratic. Graytch society became hierarchical, based on status usually found in connections to the Agencies rather than on skill as a guildsman.
Despite continuous bush wars against the Agencies for many decades, the Agencies' tight grip on Graytch society remained. The end of the Agency-Guild Wars was principally a result of the rising popularity of the pacifistic religion of Say-ta-chu, circa -2700.
