- The epoch of the Julian Period on January 1, the astronomical Julian day number zero. The date was chosen to predate all of recorded history and fit a multiple of three calendar cycles used with the Julian calendar (15 yr indiction cycle, the 19 yr Metonic cycle and the 28 yr Solar cycle). Its epoch falls at the last time when all three cycles were in their first year together.
