A hypothetical form of FTL travel which causes space to be folded between the point of origin and the point of destination, creating a momentary portal between the origin and destination points through which the ship travels.

According to the paper "Instantaneous interstellar travel by means of folding space" (Tremens, Dorson, Scantie et al, GLIPS Press 1097), such a drive could provide a means of instantaneous travel between star systems without requiring any intervening time spent in Jumpspace.

The paper claims that such drives would require no Jump fuel, but would draw upon power from the ship's power plant to create the fold in space: in effect, it would be like creating a form of inverse Jump bubble in Einsteinian space rather than in the Jumpspace domain.

As of 1116, the paper is still undergoing peer review.
