Cybersecurity

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Cybersecurity is the provision of security specifically within the virtual spaces that exist in Computer systems.

Hardware[edit]

While any (or indeed every) Computer requires Cybersecurity, specialist Cyberdecks exist to aid the penetration of that security in Information Warfare.

Software[edit]

There are generally two forms of security software:-

  • Security Software
  • Intrusion Software

These two forms are the shield and sword of Information Warfare.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Golden Age[edit]

Computers and their Cybersecurity have always been a minefield and this was just as true in the Golden Age of the Third Imperium as at any previous time. Indeed, Computers were invented to help in Information Warfare; Information Warfare was not created for breaking Computers.

The New Era[edit]

The arrival of Virus changed the ecology of Cyberspace by adding sharks to the goldfish pond. It was like the "Invasion of the Body-Snatchers". Post Virus security systems worked very differently to pre-Virus ones, but Virus distribution was not magic and could be prevented with appropriate physical and Cybersecurity. Most of the damage caused by Virus was not caused by super-powerful computers hacking lesser ones but by co-opted lesser ones hacking each other.
