Kuyt Bureau For Protective Affairs
NAVY
The planetary governmental agency charged with civil defense for Kuyt (world) maintains a small squadron of nine 10 dton Fringian Armored Fighters. These TL–11 were license built here under contract. The immaculately maintained fighters of the Kuyt Berserker squadron are primarily charged with protecting the star port facilities and ship yards. Three flights of three take eight hour shifts to maintain a continuous combat patrol. Their maneuver drives and power plants have been modified with a solar powered, low impulse ion drive mode for sustained low speed cruising, as a fuel and cost saving measure. The use highly elliptical gravity assisted sling shot orbits to maintain a stealthy, low signature posture which allows ambush missile engagements. These pilots are characterized by their icy patient demeanor. Native arrays of deployed sensor nets hand off fire chain commands on trip wire relays, so the alerted fighters usually have the drop on intruder craft, at least for the initial encounter.
The flagship of the system is a 600 dton Fringian Long-Range Scout. The twenty crew of the Gunlo Hudan handles VIPs, escort duty, courier missions and system patrols to quell piracy.
The balance of the force consists of three 100 dton Ice Pick Class Patrol Skiffs which perform customs checks, search and seizure, search and rescue and various utility support duties. Armed with a pair of plasma guns, the crew consists of a pilot and a pair of gunners. They can make a single jump 2 on internal fuel and are fitted with jump 2 drop tanks for extended range operations. Their streamlined needle/wedge hulls are equipped for wilderness refueling. Capable of 4 G acceleration they can catch most civilian vessels but lack agility due to the energy weapons and large model 5fib computer adjacent to the avionics bay.

The lack of troop transports has been cited as a limitation of the force and a board of inquiry has been established to study the matter. A report is expected within the year.
ARMY
There is a battalion sized unit of 900 army protected forces soldiers trained for operations in icy cold and near vacuum conditions. They wear TL–11 Combat Armor and carry ruggedized 9mm ACRs, and 9mm caseless auto pistol side arms. Each squad has a laser rifle scout sniper and a dedicated TAC missile expert. They are deployed in nine companies of 100 troopers each. One company equipped with Grav APCs is deployed to each major settlement. They man the defenses and provide security. They are experienced with police functions and civilian affairs. Each bureau's province has its own garrison and barracks complex. Most facilities are underground and linked by high speed grav rail trains. Automated remote sensors linked to a comprehensive satellite array have encrypted high capacity data rates to ensure good situational awareness. It is intended that the stalwart defenders enjoy a home field advantage, with every force multiplier available. They use a six legged AFV called the Kuyt Spider Tank. The design has fairly good armor. It carries a missile pod, a chin mounted HMG, a dorsal beam laser and a HE grenade launcher. These are less expensive than the grav vehicles and at 14m3 volume can be dropped by the Patrol Skiffs.
MARINES
There is a small cadre of 90 marines. They work and train in three small 30 man platoons. They rotate between the down port, orbital high port and a moon base. They impound vessels in port that violate strict trade regulations and provide security for the governmental officials. They handle hostage and special forces tasks. They are charged with diplomatic protective details and guard embassies. Explosives experts are embedded in each platoon. They are cross trained and very light on organic logistics. Fleet and army assets support them when needed.
