The star Mimosa (otherwise known as Beta Crucis and Becrux) is a trinary star system composed of a blue giant Beta Cephei type variable star of spectral classification B0.5 orbited by a blue main sequence star of spectral type B2. A third low-mass pre-main-sequence companion star is also present.
Description (Specifications)
Mimosa Aand B orbit one another in a moderately eccentric orbit of e=0.38 at an approximate distance of 8.7AU with a period of 5.0 years. Mimosa C is a low-mass pre-main sequence companion star present within the system.
- The Mimosa star system lies approximately 85.4pc from Terra, and is located in a Coretrailing/Trailing direction from Terra at bearing 302.5o Galactic Longitude and +03.2o North Galactic Latitude.
