Karbi is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

Karbi is a hot, inhospitable planet colonized late in the Rule of Man. Unique chemicals which exist openly on the surface formed an extremely flexible but hard wearing natural polymer. In order to have sole rights to the material ReClaim-Tec, a Solomani plastic manufacturer entered into a partnership with the sector Duke to establish an underground colony. The polymer is manufactured into a vast number of everyday products, but best known for its production of self-heating food packs, and use in filter masks, aqua equipment, and space suits.

Karbi has remained little more than a worker's dormitory and factory site . Only a small percentage of its population are permanent residents. Under the planet's charter this group is the only segment can vote in company elections or stand for office.
