Mikakesh is a non-agricultural and nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Iiradu Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector in the Domain of Vland.
- This world is a colony of Jarsae (Dagudashaag 2803)
Description
Mikakesh would ordinarily have been something of a backwater with its airless, waterless wastes. Rocky outcrops of its surface poke through ancient layers of dust that range from several tens of meters in some places to a few inches in others.
The world was rescued from obscurity by the discovery of tiny gem-like particle sparsely spread through the surface dust. The inhabitants are engaged in the time-consuming filtering process to recover these particles. The end product is used widely, and sold under a variety of names, and generally known as "star dust".
The population of Mikakesh are almost all descended from the original colonists arriving from Jarsae (Dagudashaag 2803). Originally from the country of Karnasta, they were migrants of the Shampka religion who felt compelled to leave their homes due government restrictions. Many of them maintained ties to their home world and are still ruled by the government of Karnasta.
All of the inhabitants live in some 10,000 colects scattered across the surface. The Colects have little physical contact with each other except on holidays, but communications are very common.
