Arlu (World) Synopsis

Arlu is a nonindustrial, oceanic, pre-rich water world.

• It is covered with very deep oceans with less than 1% of its land above sea level.
• The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 1% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
• As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
• Its economy and population are moderately growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
• It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Argi Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector in the Domain of Vland.
• This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
• Nearly 100% of the population is composed of Bwap.
• Less than 10% of the population is composed of humans and other sophonts.

Description

A non-industrial ocean world located in the Argi Subsector of Dagudashaag.

• Arlu is a member of the Imperium.
• The system hosts a Naval Base.
• During the Long Night this world was named Sakhi.

History & Background (Dossier)

A Bwap colony specializing in crystal production. Most of the cities (pods) are built upon floating islands of a coral-like substance and a symbiotic relationship has developed between the Bwap’s and the island ecology. The Bwaps provide fertilizer for the many plants that grow within the coral and protection from the large ocean predators that like the soft coral underside. In return the ecology supplies food and protection. Each city dweller rubs itself in the islands sap thereby identifying themselves to the various natural island defenses so they remain inert while they pass through.

Although each Bwap community is generally classed as a "Religious Dictatorship", Arlu has been classified differently because each city or pod sends a chosen representative to a common council who then make all planetary decisions. In addition, the planetary law level refers to the openly accessible areas of the planet and not the extremely high law levels of the pods which are off-limits to any but those born there.
