First Rissa War
A conflict fought between the Scybrian Polyarchy and the Firstworlds over trade rights along the Scybrian Run star lane.
Description / Specifications
Part of the Mid War period of the Scybrian Wars. The Firstworlds began aggressive customs searches of vessels crossing the Rissa Gateway, believing them to be carrying supplies and equipment to dissident groups within Far Home Sector. A number of Scybrian merchant ships refused to comply and were destroyed. Scybrian naval forces immediately began escort missions and very quickly the situation devolved into a full-scale naval war.
History & Background / Dossier
5323AD–5335AD. Scybria, which had used the Long Peace to build up a significant military force in the region, launched an assault and overran a number of worlds in the Rissa Gateway, including Rissa itself, and occupied two systems in Far Home Sector. The well trained Scybrian forces inflicted serious damage, though they faced increasingly fanatical defenders the further they pushed to trailing. Their forces became involved in reducing isolated Firstworlds garrisons and outposts and by 5328AD the campaign had ground to a halt.
At around the same time revelations about Scybrian involvement in the Hidden War came to light. They shocked and enraged the Firstworlds and fuelled a national effort, with vast numbers of volunteers swelling the Firstworlds' military.
As the Firstworlds' new forces entered the conflict it descended into a grinding war of attrition marked by occasional naval skirmishes and commando raids. Scybria in particular was hampered by long and vulnerable supply lines and the need to protect them, which drew troops and resources away from the front lines. By 5334AD, as both sides neared exhaustion, an armistice – the so-called False Peace – came into effect. The war was finally ended in 5335AD, after protracted negotiations that involved disbanding the People's Liberation Front.
