Biomes are a semi-distinct region with similar biological profile. For instance, Temperate Forest or Scrubland. Knowing the biome of a creature helps one determine where it should appear.

== Land Biomes

  • Forest
  • Swamps
  • Arid/Desert

Urban Environments

This region is defined by mesa/cliff vertical structures and usually, an abundance of sophonts and food.

Exotic Analogues

An Exotic Analogue in this case is a biome that works in a somewhat similar fashion to an ordinary biome, but is a lot stranger. For instance, you could have Biome: Macrofauna Organs (Swamp/Wetlands Analogue), or Biome: Ancients Temple-Market (Urban Analogue)

The "Pet/Cultivated" Biome

Some creatures, through breeding, biotech, or losing their defenses over millennia. A creature with the "pet" biome has a biological niche so small that it's likely doomed outside of it. Note that not all creatures that are kept as pets (or food) are unviable species--even a common housecat can be devastating to populations of rodents and small birds. See "Invasive Species " on the Traveller Bestiary page.

Aquatic Biomes

  • River/Lake
  • Reef/Coastal
  • Kelp Forest
  • Ice Sheet
  • Open Ocean
  • Ocean Floor
  • Ocean Vents

Exotic Biomes

  • Volcano/Magma
  • Macrofauna/Superorganism(†?)
  • Gas Giant
  • Nebulae†
  • Psychic Realms†
  • Data Streams†
  • Asteroids†

Notes

  • The dagger "†" indicates a "Loose" Sci-fi concept. This is the science fiction equivalent to "cinematic" in GURPS.
