* Samardin class Patrol Sloop
A generic class of paramilitary vessel, the Patrol Sloop is a patrol craft commonly encountered within the Distant Fringe region. It is classified as a Patrol Cruiser and is constructed as a conventional design. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled.

* The vessel is a TL 11 design.

Hull
The Patrol Sloop is constructed using a 500 dTon hull built in a generally cone-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, plated, and structurally reinforced, with an armor rating of 6: the ship is equipped with fuel scoops.

* Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. Sections of the ship can be isolated in the event of an emergency.

* The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators. All accessible sections of the hull have life support.

Engineering
The vessel mounts a DeVoss-type jump-2 drive, a maneuver-3 drive, and a power plant 5, giving performance of jump-2 and 3G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 2 and an emergency agility of 3. There is fuel tankage of 125 dTons, sufficient for one jump-2 and giving the power plant four weeks duration. The craft is fitted with a fuel purification plant.

* The engineering section has a main control room.

* The jump drive utilises a lanthanum hull grid.

* The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.

Main Section
Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/3: the vessel carries an additional backup computer model/3. There are 15 staterooms and 6 low berths. Double occupancy accommodations are required for all except the command crew. Four staterooms are available to ship's troops (who travel double occupancy) or important passengers. Cargo capacity amounts to 8 dTons.

* The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, an advanced sensor array and full ECM.

Crew
The Patrol Sloop requires 17 crew: 5x command, 2x engineering, 7x gunnery, 2x service, and 1x Flight. The vessel carries 8 marines.

Weapons
The ship is fitted with 5 turrets. These are grouped into:

* one sandcaster battery, consisting of 1 triple turret

* one beam laser battery, consisting of 2 linked triple turrets

* one missile battery, consisting of 2 linked triple turrets

Subcraft
The ship carries a 20 dTon Pinnace in a dedicated hanger.

Cost
The basic cost of the vessel, complete with a Pinnace, is MCr539.686.

* Both craft are standard designs. Detailed architectural plans are widely available and no design fee is chargeable.

* If multiple examples of the design are ordered all of the ships in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces their price to MCr431.749.

History / Background
A design that dates to the time of the Terran Confederation: elements of the design and construction indicate that the vessel has Vilani origins. The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems, onboard electronics, and the fit out of internal spaces.

The genius of the local manufacturers of these ships is the willingness to sell these vessels to any organization and government with sufficient funds to afford them.  The trusted brand name is an ancient assurance of reliable quality.  Distant Fringe history tells of these ships fighting on both sides of several local conflicts, with only minor differences to tell them apart.  They have served, been sold off and continued to patrol with smaller navies.  Refits, overhauls keep these vessels around for a long time under a variety of flags.
