The huge rift that lies directly to rimward of the Distant Fringe.

A vast empty region generally running spinward-rimward and covering many hundreds of sectors.

The sectors that make up the Distant Fringe are generally considered to lie at the rimward edge of the spiral arm.
It is sometimes referred to as "Old Man Void", particularly in poetry and song.
