5314AD–5335AD. Part of the Mid War period of the Scybrian Wars. The conflict started during the Long Peace (5290AD–5323AD) when the Firstworlds began to impose additional tariffs on commodities crossing its borders in order to increase its military budget. Almost immediately Mantlerist groups began large-scale protests – the new taxes would hit the poorest the hardest. The Firstworlds, always with strong anti-Mantlerist leanings, responded in a heavy-handed manner, breaking up demonstrations, making many arrests and imposing martial law in some areas.
The situation rapidly escalated. A guerrilla force, The People's Liberation Front sprang up to protect the rights of citizens. Within months acts of terrorism were perpetrated, territories and even whole worlds were seized, police actions were fought, and atrocities were committed. The PLF grew in strength and audacity and the conflict dragged on, becoming steadily more bloody.
The PLF was in fact covertly funded and supported by the Scybrian Polyarchy. When the full scale of Scybrian involvement became apparent it directly escalated the First Rissa War.
