The Awaken are self-aware Virus infected robots. Unlike the suicidal or manic types of early virus infections, the Awaken are stable and social enough to form functioning societies. Usually these are strains of Parent virus, sometimes overseen by empire builder or puppeteer.
When the Gushemege Merchantile Guild did the GMG third survey of areas under their control, they distingushed between the biological societies and the machine ones producing two, sometimes very different, UWPs.
