This page will attempt to collect all the myriad creatures in the Traveller universe. The organization style will collect them by biome first, then alphabetically.
Land Biomes[edit]
Everywhere[edit]
"Everywhere" animals are creatures that have managed to find in a wide variety of environments. Creatures with this biome tag can be assumed to be just about everywhere, limited only by geographic restriction or a few extreme biomes.
- Rats
- Space Rats?
- Cats
Plains/Steppe[edit]
- Gazaal — A hefty and robust ungulate-like herbivore. Also utilized as a beast of burden or mount.[1]
- Miniphants — Like elephants, miniphants feed on trees in savannahs, although on a smaller scale. Bred as beasts of burden and pets.[2]
Forest[edit]
- Nibbon — A fluffy, flying, fox-like creature, often raised as pets. They eat insect and fruits, like a bat.[3]
Swamps[edit]
Arid/Desert[edit]
- Carthus — A large, pale cave-dwelling semi-humanoid carnivore. Moves extremely fast, can swim, and can fit through any passage the size of its head. Definitely causes nightmares.[4]
Beach/Island[edit]
- Klian Sea Sifter — A pangolin-esque shallow-water creature. May also be found in swamps, lakes, or other aquatic regions, if you're feeling creative![5]
Urban[edit]
Rural/Cultivated[edit]
Ice Sheet[edit]
- Ice Crawler -- A man-sized, leech-like creature that travels on ice sheets and highlands, filter-feeding through consuming minerals and ores. It's about four meters long and is rather territorial, but luckily is slightly slower than a lightly encumbered, athletic human.[6]
- Ice Spider -- Possibly related to Ice Crawlers, in fact they may be another caste of the same species, one which will sometimes eat the other. They're fast and dangerous ambush predators.[7]
Aquatic Biomes[edit]
The following are aquatic biomes.
River/Lake[edit]
Reef/Coastal[edit]
Kelp Forest[edit]
Ice Sheet[edit]
Ice sheets are half aquatic, of course. See Ice Sheet above.
Open Ocean[edit]
- Daghadasi and Daghsharks -- The same creature at different stages, changing from sea-killer to a baleen-type filter-feeder. Daghadasi can grow to two kilometers long, possibly longer, holding entire biomes on their backs.[8]
Ocean Floor[edit]
- Erakuul — huge, powerful worm that produces bioelectricity and eats even larger dead leviathans at the bottom of the ocean. Grows to 60 meters.[9]
Ocean Vents[edit]
Exotic Biomes[edit]
Gaseous[edit]
- Ruuta — A small, ball-shaped creature with fanning wings. It filter-feeds through a thick atmosphere, spending most of its life in the air.[10]
- Creatures on the planet of Jagd are likely mostly this type of species.
