Description[edit]

The Imperial Marines use a very flexible organizational structure due to the potential need to deploy anything from a 10 marine shipboard detachment up to an all-arms combat division in a major engagement. Marine Regiments exist for administrative rather than combat purposes; Task Forces are formed out of available units as the need arises.

A Marine Task Force is an ad hoc sub-unit of a Marine Regiment (i.e. a "Detachment"), a grouping of several Marine Companies and/or other specialist sub-units drawn from the Regiment and tailored for a specific mission or task objective. It is generally commanded by a Marine Force Commander. A Marine Regiment contains three Task Force headquarters units plus and typically nine Marine Companies supplemented by various smaller units performing specialist functions. Units are assigned to a headquarters to create a force of whatever size and composition may be required.
