A Secret is a specific item of information known to a character, but not necessarily known generally within the character's in-game context
- For the use of this term in this wiki see Secret (wiki).
Metahistory[edit]
The concept was first explicitly seen in Mongoose Traveller and has been continued in Traveller 5.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
During character generation, a character may become privy to a Secret. This information then becomes a potential hook on which one or more scenarios may thereafter turn.
In T5 it is defined as "...some object or thing the character finds in his possession: it may be something in his files, or taken from the bottom of a drawer, or a memento. The significance of the object is controlled by the referee in the course of later events. A Secret is a spark for an adventure. Its description is just enough to direct the adventurers’ attention toward some goal. The Secret has some importance; it is generally shared or discussed only with comrades who can be trusted, and even then only incompletely. Some secrets are family knowledge, passed down from generation to generation; others are learned in the course of adventuring."
