Some sections (weapons and subcraft, particularly hangers) can be slightly confusing too, but with a bit of judicious cutting and pasting it should work. "XXXX" and similar denotes "fill in the appropriate name or number here". Things like hanger space have been added because their characteristics are relatively easy to extrapolate from designs, and these very specific areas of vessels are often the focus of intense player activity. Y'know, dodgy cargoes getting quarantined, boarding actions, conversion to other uses, trying to jam in extra vehicles, that sort of thing.

Of course, this version of the template won't be to everyone's taste. But, if nothing else, hopefully it provides some inspiration. Examples of its implementation are provided below.

Expanded Template

A version of Max's excellent template with a number of additional and expanded data fields - care must be taken to delete superfluous data from the table or it'll thoroughly chew up the end result. If your ship doesn't have the described feature (perhaps no cargo ramp, or no ECM) then prune or delete the data until you're happy with the result. It may also be necessary to pluralise (or perhaps de-pluralise) data entries (1 dual plasma gun turret versus 10 dual plasma gun turrets, for example). Best advice, apply grammatical common sense and aim for "readable".

Some of the additional data is pure fluff. If it doesn't appeal, change it or get rid of it - the template is a structure to help frame your imagination, not a straightjacket for it. Bottom line, you've got to be happy with the end result.

Double square brackets [ [ and ] ] denote a link within the data, as normal.

A single square bracket [ and ] around data further serves to highlight areas where choices must be made and superfluous data must be deleted.

"XXXX" and similar denotes "fill in the appropriate name or number here".

Some sections (weapons and subcraft, particularly hangers) can be slightly confusing too, but with a bit of judicious cutting and pasting it should work. I'm going to keep tinkering with the format until I've covered most bases (ie stuff like drop capsules and launch tubes are included).

Of course, this version of the template won't be to everyone's taste. But, if nothing else, hopefully it provides both inspiration and examples of how to implement additional layers of data onto a design. Some examples of its use are provided below.

| Tonnage
| The XXXX class is constructed using a XXX Ton hull built in a XXXX configuration. [The hull is unstreamlined and cannot operate in anything denser than Trace atmospheres without risking catastrophic structural failure.]
[The hull is partially streamlined, giving a relatively limited atmospheric performance largely reliant on its onboard gravitic systems. It is equipped with fuel scoops.]
[The hull is fully streamlined, giving a good atmospheric performance assisted by its onboard gravitic systems. It is equipped with fuel scoops.]
* There are XX airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors and has a loading ramp.
* Droptanks: Examples of the class are fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional jump XX.
|-
| 2.
| Crew
| XXX personnel. XX command, XX engineering, XX gunnery, XX service, XX medical, and XX stewards. There are XX Marines security personnel and XX flight crew.
* Staterooms: XX single double occupancy.
