Société Anonyme (public limited company). A public limited company is an organization whose securities are traded on a stock exchange and can be bought and sold by anyone, subject to conditions of limited liability (the organization is a separate legal entity from its owners and shareholders and shields them from personal liability). Public companies are strictly regulated and are required by law to publish their complete and true financial position so that investors can determine the real worth of their stock.
