History & Background (Dossier)
Robots are an inevitable technological path followed by nearly every sophont species. Sophonts desire, as a matter of course, to reduce their labor and robots are a possible solution to the demands of labor. The earliest robots are nearly always mechanical marvels and clockwork contraptions, often not more than automatons or dumbwaiters. With electronics, computers, and later positronic brains, robots grow greatly in capability.
