[[Infantry]] are those troops who are primarily deployed to fight while on the ground using their own innate movement ability.

== Description ([[Specifications]]) ==
[[Infantry]] are those troops who are primarily deployed to fight while on the ground using their own innate movement ability. For Land based species, these are inevitably the first type of troops created. 

The {{Imperium}} recognises [[Infantry]] as one of the basic types of troops deployed by the [[Imperial Army]]

Infantry may be deployed with transport in which case they may gain other names:
* [[Motorised Infantry]] are deployed with [[Wheeled Vehicle]]s
* [[Mechanised Infantry]] are deployed with [[Tracked Vehicle]]s, [[Legged Vehicle]]s or [[Hovercraft]]
* [[Lift Infantry]] are deployed with [[Gravcraft|Grav Vehicles]] or [[Helicopter]]s or [[Jet Aircraft|VTOL Jet Aircraft]]

Infantry may also be deployed with fighting vehicles rather than just with (armoured or unarmoured) transport. In these cases they become:
* [[Armoured Infantry]] when deployed with [[Ground Vehicle]]s or [[Hovercraft]]
* [[Armoured Lift Infantry]] when deployed with [[Gravcraft|Grav Vehicles]] or [[Helicopter]]s or [[Jet Aircraft|VTOL Jet Aircraft]]

Infantry with specialist skills may also be given other names:
* [[Jump troops]] are skilled as planetary assault from orbit (or within an atmosphere)
* [[Marines]] are skilled in Zero-G operations (e.g. [[Imperial Marines]])
* [[Maritime Infantry]] are skilled in waterborne operations (e.g. [[Infantry]] in [[Nautical Force Command]])

The [[Imperial Army]] does not deploy any specialist infantry with innate Flight capabilities for aerial combat, but those units of this type that it opposes are known as [[Aerial Infantry]].

Elite units may also be granted special name e.g. [[Imperial Guard]]
