Notes (2016)[edit]

  • This female-dominated, Church/State has a female-governed Conquered Government/Colony (depending on who is asked) located at 1927 on the Bridge of Destiny between the Ascendancy Pact and the Democracy of Greats and is hotly protested by the non-aligned worlds and the larger polity on the plank that the stretch of worlds between them should remain unclaimed to keep the Quiet Wars from escalating. Thus far, the Asendancy Pact's Representatives and Magistrates have allowed 'Colonization', but are hushed when using the term 'Conquered'. However, the Pact has not annexed the world, (yet).

Ancients Time Capsules = An Trade Code?[edit]

Knoellighz Sector is becoming known more for its shunted, Ancients time capsules rather than discovered Ancients sites. Sometimes these time capsules are discovered in an already-arrived state and undisturbed. Other times, they appear with sophonts already present and surprised at the arrival.

  • My question is this. Should Ancients time capsules rate the planet Ancients Site (An) Trade Code? Should they only have such if the time capsule is already present when discovered? Should all time capsules rate the An code?

Examples:

  • Nouon mining crews found their time capsule and it was recognized as such by Roethoeegaeaegz agents.
  • Roethoeegaeaegz do not know if they or their time capsule arrived on their world first. No one was present in that region under the surface of the planet when it arrived.
  • Araksa drilling vehicle was crushed, killing four Vargr crew, when their time capsule arrived.

Roethoeegaeaegz Deep[edit]

A-Rated Downport

Nestled along the sides and bottom of a steep and stark crevice canyon or gorge is Roethoeegaeaegz Deep. It is an A-rated Starport on the surface of the mainworld of Roethoeegaeaegz. This location was chosen on the Vacuum world to protect against angled, incoming meteor strikes, occasional corsair activity, and to provide port security and defense against enemy navies from other polities. Embedded into the sides of the jagged and sheer crevice are various sizes of hangars, bays and berths. For larger starships, there are landing zones at the bottom of “the Deep” that connect to underground support facilities. The long crevice is shadowed most hours of a typical day on this world. Thus there are many guidance lights for final approach of vessels in addition to navigation beacons. Additionally, a healthy mainworld traffic control tower guides incoming ships to appropriate hangars or berths.

Lack of an atmosphere re-entry is no hurdle to pilots descending to Roethoeegaeaegz. Conversely the wings and fins on an aerodynamic vessel are little aid to handling on an airless Vacuum world. There is no weather to obscure or hinder final approach. The result is a quiet descent unless one is listening to the constant communications chatter of female ship crews and male tower teams. Traffic is usually very busy for starships, spacecraft, smallcraft and contra-gravity flyers. Atop the upper surface are many embedded emplacements of port defense weaponry. There are fewer defenses with shortened ranges bulging from the sides of the gorge as a second layer of protection. While the initial approach is relatively easy for incoming pilots, dipping down into the canyon takes patience. Though guided along virtual paths shared by communications and help from the tower, ship crews can readily view ground traffic roads, sealed tubes and other superstructures that would otherwise be a navigational hazard.

Spread across the upper surface of Roethoeegaeaegz and surrounding the Downport are various, transparent and geodesic bio-domes that house arboretums, hydroponics, and other water recycling and reclamation plantations. Similarly, the craters from previous meteor impacts are stepped and domed as well for the same uses. Fewer than belowground are roads and highways on the surface for ground traffic. Photovoltaic panels everywhere else on the open and flat surface constantly angle themselves to face Contemplator, the system’s solar primary. An east-west mag-lev monorail network reaches out across the upper surface for connections to other cities and rural areas. These features can be seen on final approach to Roethoeegaeaegz Deep.

Roethoeegaeaegz Deep is both the mainworld Starport and the capital metropolis of the entire solar system. Offices of the melded Church and State government of Roethoeegaeaegz can be found in temple-offices in the subterranean chambers adjacent to the Downport. Transit tunnels crisscross the crust of the metropolitan region. Many upper surface lodges and underground den hotels are advertised at the berth terminals and hangars. Also adjacent to the hangars and berths are various sizes of warehousing and mercantile staging points in turn connect to nearby markets, malls and online shopping terminals. Customs is stringent and the constant presence of law enforcement, paladin females in battledress armor and heavy weapons, are a reminder of this world’s intent on security and safety of environment integrity. The Importance rating of Roethoeegaeaegz as one of three Industrial hubs of the Ascendancy Pact demands such regulations. It is immediately apparent that this world has much more variety of commodities to export than import. The majority of imports feature water and liquid or compressed air. Plants that produce higher cycles of oxygen are a valued blessing to the peoples and their inhospitable planet.

Unlike the Highport, Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital, there is no offered or upheld Extraterritoriality and visitors who land on the mainworld are assumed consensual to and abide by the local Law Level and culture provided by the melded Church and State. Such warnings are abundant throughout the local solar system. Thus, very few arriving vessels at Roethoeegaeaegz Deep feature male Vargr, (or any other race males), who are not already citizens. This is protested annually by the greater Ascendancy Pact polity Representatives and vetoed by the Representative and female Magistrate from Roethoeegaeaegz.

Entertainment districts can be found close to the hotels, malls and the Downport. Historic shrines detailing the Recovery are here and there in the metropolitan area. Guided tours are available for visitors to learn the mainworld’s history and reasons for such a skewed local population of females to males. Sports arenas are also a draw as there are a few seasonal events held on weekly or monthly, posted schedules. Various hardcopy editions of the Recovery are sold to visitors unwary of the culture of this world in more establishments than not, especially at Roethoeegaeaegz Deep. Though most shopping purchases are handled by female Vargr, some males on their own peruse the stores with their earned money or on assigned trips with their wives overlooking.

The Roethoeegaeaegz credit is an intricate, laser etched, flat and hexagonal, quartz crystal coin. The coins can come in many denominations from drab clear ‘white’, to rosy quartz middle values, to upper echelon amethyst superior amounts. The laser etching changes with each decade to prevent counterfeiting. A shattered coin is rendered worthless, so citizens take pains to handle money carefully when not in electronic form.

Culture on Roethoeegaeaegz is readily apparent to off-worlders upon leaving their vessels and stepping into the terminals. For every four female Vargr citizens dressed for business, security or utilitarian functions, there might be one male dressed in clothing that is aesthetic, partially-revealing and pleasing to the females around them. Jewelry is minimal on the females while the more successful males are considered handsome in precious metals and brilliant stones. A sure sign that a male is married is his solid metal torc or a solid metal bracelet, often studded with fine gems. Clothing and jewelry outlets have better measurements available for the males though some few shops offer stylized chronometers, office tools and implements, hand computers and other utilitarian gear that appeal to the local females. All but the poorest Vargr are dressed for success, each in their own gender’s latest fashions. Officials of the Roethoeegaeaegz government stand out in their priestess robes of various functionary stations, practical and ritualized. Security and military forces can be seen conferring with the robed members of the Church of the Recovery. Pages and squires, all male, can be seen rendering attaché assistance to officers and officials of every rank.

Trade is abundant past Customs and the haggling, performed in barks and growls of the local Gvegh racial language is the norm in the market. Though most trading occurs between the female populace, there are some males breaking into this sector of workforce. One type of commodities that male merchants can expect to be gently rebuffed, (citing history and state religion statutes), from is weaponry and other military grade gear. Armor is allowed to both genders though availability of male suits are at a premium even if secondhand or piecemeal. Even if a male is seen in civilian or paramilitary armors, his gear is still aesthetic as well as functional. Often symbols or other heraldry of a pack or reverse harem can be seen emblazoned on such protections. Female gear is standardized, utilitarian and varies only by rank insignia and purpose. This uniformity of equipment is to gently remind the female officers and military rank-and-file forces to respect their granted powers of authority at every level of society. Illegal commodities include contraceptive or abortive drugs not directly prescribed by a certified physician or apothecary advised by an individual’s doctor. Another illegal commodity often smuggled from Roethoeegaeaegz are the disenfranchised male Vargr seeking illegal emigration. Conversely, some normally-illegal luxury consumables, such as typically found in the reverse harems are somewhat legal but often closely regulated. Maximum tonnage of incoming such luxury items are limited to frequency and destination on the mainworld.

A note on Charisma and Infighting at Roethoeegaeaegz Deep and surrounding districts is that it can happen that violence breaks out when tension levels are too high and demand such a challenge. While females engage in debates and Infighting to settle scores and readjust personal or pack Charisma, such scenes are not permitted to last very long. They are held to higher standards than males. Males typically erupt into Infighting but local law enforcement, citing the Recovery; try to render aftercare to both combatants once Charisma is satisfied. This is true especially when such encounters are fought out in the open, in public or are ritualized duels to settle slights. Rarely does Infighting end in duels to the death and certainly not in the public eye. Infighting is almost never used in true combat or assassinations, male or female. Just as seldom are challenges that cross the sexes, unless personal rights are at stake. Many of such confrontations usually end up in court hearings with female advocacy lawyers and a female priestess sitting as presiding judge or magistrate. Infighting taken too far is a dark mark against an individual, their reverse harem, pack or office as it directly runs against the state religion of Recovery.

Roethoeegaeaegz Religion[edit]

The religion of Roethoeegaeaegz is called the Church of the Recovery. It is a matriarchy and melded with State, becomes a Religious Autocracy. The Matron is both the political and spiritual leader of the world. Since the world is Recovering from a past economic downturn and bloody civil war that nearly wiped out the male population, the Church had to act and decisively though such a move was risky given the heat of the moment.

The Church publishes a text of philosophy and guidelines centered around this culture trying to call itself back from the brink of mutually assured destruction. Recovery puts forth the belief parallel to the Solomani Hypothesis, that the Ancients may have uplifted the Vargr for a reason. It supposes that the Ancients were more female than male and that Roethoeegaeaegz should emulate such and cradle life in nourishment and discipline, even as it upholds the racial nature of Charisma, pack structure and social strata. The text mentions in passing the discovery after the Golden Era of an Ancients time capsule on Roethoeegaeaegz. Through its wondrous technologies, it is believed that the Ancients have given the Vargr of this world a jumpstart of their recovering society and culture, whereas other worlds might have written off the Vacuum world's denizens. Self reliance and cooperation with the females emulating the Ancients then is key then to clawing one's way up from the shambles of the civil war of the past.

Water and survival on the world of Roethoeegaeaegz is stressed and conservation of such on a Vacuum and Desert world as theirs. Their text offers guidelines to the recycling of water, reclamation of bodily water after death of the individual as a parting gift, the value of oxygen producer plants as fundamentals to continuing life on the world and its colonies as pragmatic as well as holy.

The religion is largely Vargrist (tr: humanist) with a concentration on maintaining life and the hopes of re-balancing the male to female ratio after the collapse of the Golden Era of their past. Such is seen as a fall from grace or expulsion from paradise to continue the struggle to survive in a new existence of challenges and attainments. As non-believers, on average, tend to avoid Roethoeegaeaegz, the population believes in trusting to the females to lead and produce more males in the Recovery. Yet, the doors are open to those who wish to convert, become citizens and help Roethoeegaeaegz recover.

While females are expected to reproduce and help the world recover its male-female ratio, their dominance ends there. Males are still free-willed, even as they are required to help the females in their task in selected increments between terms of their normal career or occupation. To preserve the males and genetic material as long as possible, the storing of male sperm is sanctioned by the religion and codified in their text. This further allows males more freedom in their careers and flexibility in adapting to issues of current affair. Under the rulership of a Matron, the Church melded with State is to protect, share the faith, guide and expand outward. This is generally interpreted to direct such guidelines to other worlds in similar survival circumstances. Recently, Nouon (Knoellighz 1927) is deemed such a world, despite the discovery of a second Ancients time capsule shunted forward in time and space from antiquity. Nouon seems to justify such expansion in light of the calling of their polity, the Ascendancy Pact to expand Coreward, toward the eventual annexation of Serue (Knoellighz 1221) and worlds beyond.

The religion of Roethoeegaeaegz has a hierarchy starting with a Matron who rules both Church and State with a firm, female claw and her heart supposedly set on preserving life. Such is her Charisma and mystique on Roethoeegaeaegz, that many devoted females and loyal males assume that the Matron is either a self-taught psionic Vargr or is mentored by her predecessor whether that Matron is psionic or not. The Matron is seconded by a bureaucracy of priestesses in official robes and the higher education of statecraft to administer the recovering world per the most recent mandates of the Matron. Below the priestesses are the military arm of their power. Well trained and devout female Marines, called valkyries as a poor translation, serve the hierarchy as naval borne warriors in boarding, orbital drops, infiltration and system security operations handed down from the priestesses in charge of entire battalions. Likewise, the system's Navy is crewed and supported by females. Very few males are allowed on warships and at most, these squires serve on medical spaceships and peacetime vessels in-system. Planetary forces are filled by female paladins, again a poor translation from Gvegh. The paladins serve in local Army, Law Enforcement, and Starport security functions, even as all are given wartime equipment, armor and weapons. This paramilitary and uniform load-out is seen as both a religious and state function even as it keeps costs of armament low and standardized. The anointed paladins are served by male squires in logistics, communications and other tasks such as administration to keep the females free to devote their attentions on the current affairs and issues of the day. The squires are not without training, but are kept from the battlefield in support roles. A typical page, a first-term squire, can expect menial chores until he proves himself worthy of assignment to a paladin or valkyrie or ultimately a priestess as a functionary attache.

Roethoeegaeaegz Church and State also codifies the guidelines of reverse harems whereupon an alpha female may lawfully seek out available males to include them in their reverse harem. The Recovery goes on to limit harem service to a single year before a male can return to his normal career. It also allows for deselection on various grounds of health, personal identification and alternate services provided by a male.

While the religion of Roethoeegaeaegz has been viewed by off-worlders as puzzling, (thus the Puzzle Trade Code stamped upon the world), many citizens do not feel that their way of life and happiness is hindered and continue to hold the faith if not the religion of the Church and State. To date, the world has only improved its Universal World Profile because of the Recovery. The Pakkrat (talk) 19:17, 6 August 2016 (EDT)

Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital[edit]

Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital Highport and Polity Naval Base

In a geostationary orbit over the mainworld’s Downport is Roethoeegaeaegz Oribtal. As the local Religious Autocracy and matriarchy refused to budge on moving its surface Naval Base to the Highport, the Ascendancy Pact polity was forced to purchase module space and construct one. The reason the polity chose a space born Naval Base is the lack of Extraterritoriality on the planet’s surface. Since, in contrast to the local, system defense navy, the Pact’s Naval fleets are largely captained by male Vargr, there was little yielding on both sides. Neither could the polity pressure the economic and industrial powerhouse of Roethoeegaeaegz to install Extraterritoriality on the planet. Thus, those ships making port from the greater Ascendancy Pact stop at Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital for their services.

The Highport was initially constructed after the mainworld’s devastating civil war and after the joining of Church and State. After reforms in the new E-rated Government and intense D-rated Paramilitary Law supported by the Church and State collectively, conflicts in court and in the polity Representatives politely but firmly requested Extraterritoriality at the new Starport being built high over the Downport, Roethoeegaeaegz Deep. Following much debate, the first Matron of Roethoeegaeaegz agreed to the hotly contested request. Male Vargr captains and their crews would be allowed to dock and service vessels without molestation by the local government and religious recruitment or conversion propaganda. Today, Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital sees a greater, yet simmering, population of mainworld Vargr, (75% of which are female), and visiting polity ships and crews featuring cautious yet oft-offended males at the androgyny of Roethoeegaeaegz locals. Yet locals, visiting traders and polity naval crews hold their own Charisma even under the glare of law enforcement paladins and stationed valkyries at the orbital Naval Base.

Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital features much the same components of a surface Downport and adds the capability of berthing vessels never meant to land on a world surface. At an average Tech Level of 12, the mainworld continues to strive for improvement, backed by the Church and State. As such, the orbital facility is immaculate and kept, so much so that visiting crews sometimes refrain from taking meals at restaurants in the station. Besides the cleanliness and stark security forces protecting the Highport, various kiosks advertising immigration incentives to visiting males who display sufficient UPP criteria and are willing to test aptitudes and health screenings. Those curious males from the greater Ascendancy Pact soon learn that immigrating to Roethoeegaeaegz is generally a one-way door towards selection by interested females ready to staff a reverse harem. A wise captain docking at the station addresses his crew and reminds them of this world’s skewed laws and seemingly safe draw of immigration. More than a few vessels’ crew have lost members to the allure of immigrating to the female-dominated Roethoeegaeaegz.

Consulates given office at Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital are generally because the Emissary or another Functionary of the remote world is represented by a male Vargr. This unyielding stance forces teleconferencing when the Matron or her assigned priestess must make contact with the male Consul in orbit. Sometimes the distance is bridged by an angry Matron forced to commute by shuttle to the office of a stubborn, male Consul. Only after scorning a Matron does a remote world consent to send a new, female representative to occupy the Consulate to ease the tensions of interstellar trade, polity cooperation and projects for the future of the Ascendancy Pact.

As there is granted an Extraterritoriality at Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital, a grating and irritating policy at the Highport is upheld by the Starport Defense Establishment (SDE). While visiting captains, officers and crews are protected somewhat from the Church and State of the mainworld, they must also abide by a set of regulations as to what may be carried off their starships while visiting. The local paladins and, on occasion, stationed valkyries have had to respond to misunderstandings, offended crews at the dress and bejeweled local males, and outright Infighting brawls to settle Charisma. As there is little time to read the downloadable or hardcopy of the Recovery, fines can be high for offending crews who shirk reading the text or ignore the warnings of their captains. More than a few ships have been forced to undock their vessel and continue services by commuting to the Highport through smallcraft and denying their crews liberty.

Though the paramilitary State begrudgingly tolerates the protests of special interest groups and gender equality activists who march through the Highport demanding change, paladins have had to cordon off their sit-ins and pickets. Most gathering and flash-mobs are peaceful yet vociferous. Again, just as often, these activists fail to do their research and interview local citizens (and longer term immigrants) as to whether they are happy living on Roethoeegaeaegz.

Local system defense vessels have priority in the Shipyard and the Repair Shops before the fleets of the Ascendancy Pact. This is angrily protested by Pact Admiralty to no avail. The Matron has issued a statement that the Quiet Wars of Knoellighz Sector are too quiet to be termed wars. As such the territorial marking that the fleets call battles or skirmishes are given a lower priority to repair from such exchanges of ordinance. Yet the facilities of Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital are quite capable and ready to take the pay of the Admiralty when a warship pulls into a Repair Shop. The Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital Traffic Control, “Tower”, is a boon to the system traffic. For it is here that the main bulk of vessels are first divided between those that choose to land at the Downport, (again after much warnings to male crews), and ships that cannot land on a planet’s surface. The high importance of Roethoeegaeaegz demands a stringent pathing and narrow windows of arrival and departure. Failure to comply with an assigned flightpath can result in increased berthing fees or other Highport services. It is this efficiency that reduces traffic jams and delays in the final approach to the mainworld.

There are many Sensor Arrays and they are interspersed with embedded station defense hardpoints. Corsairs have had a rough time taking on Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital, its armed locals, system defense boats and Ascendancy Pact Navy. Corsairs from Thoeg and Irrardhang subsectors generally do not congregate or prey upon traffic so close to the armed facility.

It is perhaps the androgyny of Roethoeegaeaegz and its culture of Recovery that there is no red light district to speak of in the Highport. Many visiting crews might find lower echelon diversions on an individual interview basis, but Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital lacks any sort of establishments to such clandestine natures. Likewise, there is little room on the space station for a black market unless one knows how to contact or hack into the local online smugglers’ den-site.

Customs and Immigration on the orbital platform are just as stringent as they are on the mainworld surface. Many captains offloading cargos are intimidated by the constant presence of war-ready paladins and the passerby valkyries to attempt anything illegal. Most expect some form of minimalist law enforcement by the local female Vargr. Some haughty male Vargr also believe that they can easily pass the medical and aptitude tests required by Roethoeegaeaegz Immigration. The mainworld’s criteria sets a bar that turns many males and all females away unless there is some overriding circumstance allowed by the priestesses on special occasion. Those immigrants that do pass the examinations can expect a fast commute to the surface of the planet for citizenship registration at the Government Temples at the Downport. Then a newcomer can step from the front door and begin a new life on Roethoeegaeaegz.

As Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital services polity fleets and the local Naval Base in orbit answers to the Admiralty’s Naval Commodore, there is often a need for Emergency Medical and Trauma facilities at the Highport. The Medical module at the station is extensive and it is here that patients find more ‘equality’ in the military and professional physicians and nursing. The Emergency Medical facilities has lucrative contracts with the station hotels and accommodations for leasing suites for long-term care for those patients refuse or refusing commute to the Hospitals on the planet’s surface. Yet the entire Highport is ready for support of military forces when the system is threatened. Mass trauma drills are conducted quarterly at Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital. One hindrance found at the Highport is the world’s average Tech Level. Treatment of patients with higher Tech Level natures, such as cyber implants of TL13+ become harder to treat or operate. This is yet another posted warning at the Emergency Medical and Trauma module.

A second satellite station, Trojan to Roethoeegaeaegz Oribtal is equipped and responsible for Auxiliary Traffic Control and in normal traffic seeks to assist the Highport in funneling incoming vessels to one of two Gas Giants in the system or down the gravity well Diameters in safe flightpaths. It too is capable of berthing smaller tonnage vessels, but only to allow smallcraft to descend to the planet or commute to the Highport. Fees for such detours are higher than at the orbital Starport.

The Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital Port Warden is always an empowered priestess who has command over a regiment of valkyries as opposed to station, law enforcement paladins. The reason for this is that the space born valkyries are better suited to Zero-G environments and operations. Trained for boarding vessels, the heavily-armed units practice monthly repelling boarders and assaulting docked or hijacked ships. Male technicians of the Port Authority are held in reserve for inspections and safety checks throughout the station. While they also serve in the Regulations Enforcement, actual law responses are upheld by the paladins and valkryries when called upon.

There are no Scout Lounges or Lone Star restaurants at Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital. However, there is a healthy Messaging Network, Hiring Hall for citizens and temp work from off-world, (who must work inside the Highport for obvious reasons). For nominal fees there are cargo commute spaceships that stand ready for charter of cargo space to and from the Highport, thus keeping visitors safe inside the station’s Extraterritoriality zone. Data Terminals arrayed about the station have restricted access but for a fee, a trader can consult markets at the Downport remotely.

Traders and bulk freight haulers must tread carefully among the female-dominated Cargo Market both at the Downport and Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital. For among the Brokers and Traders are mercantile specialists of psionic persuasion. Though the world of Roethoeegaeaegz shuns psionics from the Zhodani Consulate to Spinward, local, talented Psions can find work in Brokerage and Trader venues. Not widely known is the use of the mental disciplines in business. Even rarer are male Psions working in the business sector. Those males that are publicly known or registered with the government are given other, more covert, jobs.

While the posted, downloadable and hardcopy warnings added to the gaunt presence of the heavily armed paramilitary forces of the Church and State do present a stiff arm to visitors from the interstellar community, the Roethoeegaeaegz Orbital is largely a clean and safe Highport to call for business, politics, recreational vacations and to find work at the polity Naval Base.
