Talk:Inferno World
Notes (April 2018)[edit]
Cribbing info from the T5 rules:
- Inferno worlds are equivalent to Venus in the Sol system (obvious I know but just being complete).
Using the T5 system generation sequence, Inferno worlds can only occur in the inner, H–, H, and H+ regions of a system. Is the H+2 region still valid?
- Inferno worlds range in diameter from 11,200 km (Size Code 7) to 20,800 km (Size Code D).
- Inferno Worlds always have a corrosive atmosphere (Atmosphere Code B). This is mandated.
- Inferno Worlds are always dry, with no free standing fluids (Hydrosphere Code 0). This is mandated.
- Inferno worlds can be satellites. The implication is that their Size is reduced to the parent world's size -3, but they retain the corrosive atmosphere and dry surface. Would like to double check on this. You could end up with very small inferno worlds, which kind of seems odd. Given the 1D+7 Size roll, it seems like small Inferno Worlds were deliberately being avoided.
In terms of climate, it seems to be implicit that Inferno Worlds are hot, tho I have been wrong before. This appears to be supported by the Climate article, where the T5SS Climate Categories Table lists Inferno Worlds as having surface temperatures of 60°C to 70°C as a minimum. With Inferno Worlds in H+ positions, runaway greenhouse gases, internal geological processes etc combined with energy from the star make this quite possible. H+2, dunno, quite a steep drop in received stellar energy.
Just curious, would appreciate any thoughts. Many thanks.
T5 is pretty open and not tightly defined. There is room for development.
- Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
