X-Boat routes-yeah,well in the Spinward Marches, at least, they don't make any sense.

The route is laid out as if it sprang full-blown into being at Tech Level 14, it was explored and settled by Tech 12 ships (...probably mostly Tech 10-11 ). The route would be J-3 oriented, distances, starport quality, and path. Yeah,I know, some of the smaller ports along the way could have regressed somewhat (the "freeway bypass cut off their business"), when the current system was overlain, but the route of the autobahn would still run right past them.

This, to me, is most glaringly evident in the Lanth subsector. "The Main, the Main,THE MAIN",but the jump route obviously never attempted to follow the logical path-instead it jumps (very dramatically I admit) right through the ginnungagap this subsector is wrapped around (like having the Santa Fe Trail going over the Grand Canyon-when you could just stroll across Kansas instead). I guess what set me off on this one is the sing-song bombardment of the canoneers... People, some of the shells were off target to begin with.
