Remex Muta (or "Dumb Puller") are domesticated amphibious hexapods, often used by the Vilani on frontier worlds when fuel is limited but animal food is not. They are native to the muggy water planet of Anzalits.

Remex (singular and plural) are about 5 meters long as adults, taking up 5-14 cubic meters depending on how well-fed they are.

Remex are relatively slow but are capable swimmers, and can travel immense distances by surviving on their fat stores.

Statistics[edit]

  • Running Speed: about 15 kph
  • Speed while carrying human rider: about 10 kph
  • Saddlebag capacity: 4,500 kg (4.5 tons!)

Behavior[edit]

The remex is a dedicated herbivore that consumes marine grasses and other plants. During the storm season of its homeland, most animals cannot feed -- the remex has adapted around this by storing a huge amount of water and fat, and hibernating through the bad weather.

Trainer's Notes[edit]

The hibernation sequence seems to be activated by a pollen that tells the remex that the "stormy season" is coming. Trainers often use this pollen on purpose to make the beasts more sleepy and docile while transporting them aboard ships.

For Comparison[edit]

An average remex is larger than a Terran draft horse but can scarcely get up to a gallop, being adapted for water (there is extremely little land on their homeworld). They have webbed feed and fluked tails to help propel themselves across vast tidal pools.
