Description (Specifications)[edit]

QUALITY Quality is a measure of the consistency of the workmanship, merit, value, or worth of an object or device. It directly reflects the time period between reliability downgrades. "Quality" is the first rating in the QREBS system: Quality | Reliability | Ease of Use | Bulk or Burden | Safety. Quality is the only rating in the QREBS that is not in Flux (values between -5 and 5).

Determining Quality Quality may be pre-specified for an object or device; if not, it can be generated with a 2D-2.

Q Table
2D-2 Description Mod Period
0 Piece of Junk -5 Minutes
1 Shoddy -4 Hours
2 Poor -3 Days
3 Cheap -2 Weeks
4 Inferior -1 Months
5 Average 0 Six Months
6 Good +1 One Year
7 Very Good +2 Two Years
8 Superior +3 Three Years
9 First Class +4 Four Years
10 Excellent +5 Ten Years
11* Superb +6 20 Years
12* Masterpiece +7 Centuries

*Reserved for completely unique items that may never show up in a campaign.

Mod - (or Q-5) is equivalent to a Flux value for Quality and can be used as a DM for using the device or object.

Period - is the time between Reliability downgrades. For example: a new communicator is obtained with an "Average" quality of construction (Q=5). For this communicator, the Period is "Six Months". Brand new, the communicator has a QREBS of 50000 or |Q=5|R=0|E=0|B=0|S=0|. After six months of use without servicing it will fall from a Reliability Neutral (or "0") to a Reliability of "-1"; after another six months it will fall to a Reliability of "-2" and so on.
