Olduvianian Star Guard
The military arm of the Empire of Olduvai.
Olduvai Fleet Composition[edit]
- (10) Mailed Fist Class Imperial Marine Platoon Transports
- The main instrument of "imperial might" within the "vast empire" are these humble craft. Each carries an overworked marine platoon, supported by a single grav sled. These ships land and drop the ramp to deploy troops, and their men are not trained in orbital insertions or protected forces operations. These grunts sling ACRs, CES, disposable anti-tank rockets, grenades, mines, sharp sticks, whatever it takes to get the job done. Central command, reading from the Hiver's documents once translated, have long believed that a single imperial marine platoon is considered sufficient for most military tasks and they routinely fight outnumbered. They know not to expect a fair fight, so they tend to fight dirty using whatever and whoever they can to survive and if possible complete the mission.

- (3) Noble Clans Class Light Carriers
- Used for routine operations that don't require the full deployment of the "heavy" carriers, these tiny ships carry a single squadron of light fighters. The inexperienced rookie pilots must prove themselves aboard these ships before being promoted to a fleet carrier. They are used to escort groups of troop transports to cover their insertion and extraction, and provide close air support for the marines. Each kingdom within the empire has one of these assigned to their taskforce. Taskforce commanders know the limitations of this modest design and those who can use the vessel successfully are promoted to serve on the bigger carriers, eventually.

- (1) The Emperor's Own Class Commando Transport
- The emperor's personal bodyguard of 30 elite marines use this transport to get into harm's way. They have their own dedicated squadron of fighters, who are expert in close air support. They have the support of an entire platoon of fearsome grav tanks! Two sections insert as drop troops and use their assigned boats for dust off. During the Falayan Wars this unit handled the toughest assignments and have a reputation as the "best of the best" fighters within the service. They are content to let the fly boys wave to the crowds; they are the quiet professionals who get stuff done. A critical mission credited with winning the war involved the captain of this ship, breaking orbital formation to recover his men, who had fought their way to the top of a towering hotel adjacent to "rebel" governmental buildings they had just demolished, during a feigned peace negotiation (that part wasn't made public, and of course the rebels were blamed for the death of the ambassador). The captain lifted the men off the roof and then used the now famous plasma cannons, the only ones in the fleet, to destroy the top floors of the building killing the security forces that were in pursuit of the team. They eventually made a media about it.

- (3) Imperial Domain Class "Heavy" Carriers
- Each kingdom has their own squadron and each commodore has his own carrier to command from. The queens of the fleet, these three "massive" vessels dwarf the others in the fleet, and their four squadrons of fast fighters and deadly nuclear missile silos are seen as the ultimate expression of deterrent naval power. One commodore, usually a prince or some form of local noble, is appointed fleet admiral for the duration of each operation. The squadrons rarely agree or cooperate and seem more interested in embarrassing each other to seize command than working effectively together. No expertise among the flag officers have led some of the more talented ship captains to ignore orders when they see fit to save themselves and to preserve their forces. As a result the captains are admired and the admiralty is reviled as incompetent.

- (152) F-10 Light Fighters
- Considered the dream of every red-blooded serf in the empire, is to fly one of the amazing, quicksilver imperial fighters. Streamlined, fast and agile with missile systems for dog fighting; lavishly appointed, with a small craft stateroom for rest and relaxation between patrols, these pilots are widely envied. Decorated like dorm rooms with posters and a mini fridge, these ships often feature elaborate nose art, unofficially nicknames to go along with their pilots' cool call signs. These pilots are frequently featured in media ad campaigns, and are treated like celebrities. The squadrons have elaborate initiation rituals and are proud of their history, which aside from the Falayan Wars and a bit of inter-kingdom squabbles has been peaceful. No one has bothered to tell them that they are pointless in a true fleet action.

Olduvai Secret Falayan Belter Fleet[edit]
- The colonial governor appointed to govern the Falayan system, in the Kixum Subsector of the Crucis Margin Sector, is no fool. He is content to let the idiots in the massive "Olduvai Battle Fleet" dream on that they are the decisive naval power in the area. He realizes that his facilities cannot produce the "advanced" designs of his neighbor. He also knows that what they lack in sophistication, they more than make up for in productivity and capacity. With some carefully staged theatrics he has led the admiralty to believe his yards have been all but crippled, while secretly moving production and fabrication off world to a cluster of asteroids. He has reworked these into "mining platforms", if asked, the admiralty "knows" they are too large to be ships. In reality he has a small flotilla of...
(25) Solemn Oath Class Asteroid Hulled Destroyers

These nickel-iron asteroids are thick-hulled and all but immune to most of the Olduvai battle fleet's weapons. Their 5G acceleration is faster than anything in the Olduvai Battle Fleet, except the fighters. They are basically immune to the fighters' weapons fire. They have a particle accelerator, two heavy missile bays and a full battery of beam lasers. The one regret is that only a relatively small number of loyal Falayan soldiers, 2,250 from a legion of 150 battalions, can be transported by the combined squadron at one time. The other 72,750 troopers must quietly garrison their secret bases scattered throughout their system. The governor is not rebellious, exactly, he just knows that the leadership is delusional. His forces are a contingency plan, just in case he needs them. He wants to protect his homeworld, and this is the best way he knows how. The higher-ups in the colonial administrations are just so happy that the Falayan Wars are finally over, they don't care what he does, as long as the taxes get paid and the trade flows, peace persists.
