A small military base maintained by the K'kree military in many systems that do not include a full Naval base.

Description (Specifications)

Typically located in systems with little to offer, Outposts are generally small (for K'kree), cramped, and unpleasant stations to serve at, functioning as refueling stops, observation points, and way-stations in the web of larger Naval facilities that maintain a semblance of politically neutral communications across the Two Thousand Worlds. Because of their locations and purposes, Outposts can actually be quite large by Human standards, as they may need to refuel ships of considerable size, or provide a ready ship to complete a courier's task. While they rarely serve as the home port for the massive warships of the K'kree, couriers, troop transports, and impressively large fuel tenders can frequently be found stationed at Outposts, or visiting them on regular tours from nearby Bases.

History & Background

Naval Outposts are an artifact of the K'kree political landscape as much as any need for a naval presence in a system. Initially intended to cover gaps in the generous web of full-sized Naval Bases spread across K'kree space, Outposts serve as punishment details for real or imagined lapses by those serving in the military, and as visible indications of recognized potential. While Outposts are rarer in successful systems they do exist, and are quietly perceived as insults toward the Patriarchs who rule such systems.

Many systems within the Two Thousand Worlds have Naval Outposts, though they are most common in backwater systems with lesser ports. They do not occur in systems without functioning ports, and are rare in busy systems with high class ports.
